A Virtual Power Plant POC - Énergie Virtuelle SAS

This is a proof-of-concept project I have developed to explore a domain I am passionate about: renewable energy. I use APIs to ingest public data from the French electricity transmission system, Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE). Cloud services (MotherDuck and Streamlit) are used to store and transform the data, as well as host a series of interactive data dashboards.

The RTE's Actual Generation API is used to retrieve hourly generation values in MW specified by generation type (biomass, nuclear, solar, wind, etc.). With a corresponding dashboard, users can explore power generation trends using filters for generation type and date range.

But the key factor in modeling a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is knowledge of wholesale electricity prices and market volatility. A VPP is a network of decentralized energy resources like rooftop solar panels and residential, industrial, or utility-scale batteries, which are aggregated and controlled through software to function like a single, traditional power plant.

I've made an interactive dashboard to track wholesale electricity prices, calculate market volatility, and model the financial performance of a VPP using D+1 price data from the RTE to optimize charge/discharge schedules for customized VPP models.
